Why does the driver or conductor check the ticket?

25. 2. 2026

Have you noticed that drivers in the IDOL system insist that you tap your card or scan a QR code, even if you have a valid time-based or network-wide pass? This is not their personal decision, but a requirement set forth in the terms of service.

This rule applies to all routes in the IDOL system, with the exception of Liberec public transit, where a ticket inspector performs the check. On trains, the conductor performs the check during the trip.

Why is a ticket check required every time you board?

Statistics

Passenger records are necessary because only with accurate data can we assess the actual occupancy of services. Without recording boardings, the data would show lower occupancy rates. Thanks to consistent ticket validation, we know when to add extra service or deploy a larger car. Scanning a card or QR code takes only a moment, but it plays a major role in the operation of the entire transit system.

Ticket Validity Check

The check-in device verifies the information on the ticket against the set destination or the validity of the time-based pass. This way, the driver knows upon boarding that the passenger is presenting a valid ticket. The fare validation device can also determine whether the reported discount category (such as “student”) matches the passenger’s profile and whether the passenger is therefore eligible for that discount. Thank you for having your card ready and helping drivers do their jobs correctly and quickly.
