Rock Castle

A heavily eroded sandstone outcrop with vertical to overhanging walls and a vast upper plateau rising over 30 m above the surrounding terrain. The rock is just under 100 m long and about 60 m wide. Over the course of history, the rock has been extensively modified by people and gradually expanded with additional structures. Numerous rock chambers, both secular and sacred in purpose, were carved out and constructed both inside the rock and on its surface. These rock structures are ingeniously interconnected.

Samuel’s Cave

In 1718, Samuel Görner carved out a cave in a rock formation and lived there as a hermit. He made eyeglasses and telescopes there; although he was a trained ornamental gardener, Samuel lived there until 1735, when he moved to the hermitage at Sloup Castle, becoming the fifth in a series of seven hermits to live there. The cave here remained abandoned.

Forest Theater

The Forest Theater was built at the southwestern foot of the Na Stráži sandstone promontory, about half a kilometer south of Sloup, in 1920–21.
