Kamenický Šenov Glass Museum

Originally a municipal museum, it was founded in 1923. Since 1968, the collections have been housed in a renovated Classicist building that has always been associated with the glass trade and glass finishing throughout its history. The museum’s permanent exhibition presents the evolution of engraved and cut glass from the 17th century to the present day. Part of the exhibition is dedicated to the local glassmaking school—the oldest of its kind in Europe—the J. & L. Lobmeyr company, and international symposia on engraved glass. The permanent exhibition includes a collection of historic-style crystal pendant chandeliers and layered light fixtures, the tradition of whose production in this region dates back to 1724. Among the exceptional exhibits is a glass chair manufactured by Elias Palme’s company in Kamenice-Šenov in the last decade of the 19th century for the Maharaja’s palace in Hyderabad, India.

In addition to a tour of the permanent exhibition, the museum also offers visitors temporary exhibitions on the history and contemporary art of glassmaking.
