Railway Nostalgia in the Liberec Region and the Krkonoše Foothills: 2026 Season

The 2026 summer season offers history buffs and families with children a unique opportunity to take trips on historic trains. Steam locomotives and historic railcars, reminiscent of the golden age of railroading, will once again be in service on selected routes throughout the region.

Tanvald–Kořenov–Harrachov Rack Railway

This unique rack-and-pinion railway—the steepest in the Czech Republic—is fully operational following its renovation. Visitors can ride on historic railcars of the M 152.0 (Orchestrion) and M 240.0 (Singrovka) series.

• Accompanying Exhibits in Kořenov: The operation of historic trains is closely linked to the offerings at Kořenov Station, which serves as a center for railway nostalgia in the Jizera Mountains. Visitors can enjoy:

• Rack-and-Pinion Railway Museum: An exhibition dedicated to the history and technology of the railway line.

• Kořenov Locomotive Shed: Guided tours of historic locomotives.

• Mining Railway Complex: An exhibition featuring a historic mining train. Current operating status and availability of rides will depend on the progress of maintenance work.

Steam Trains in the Turnov Region and Bohemian Paradise

In 2026, the Turnov and Pojizeří regions will once again see the return of steam locomotive 310.0134, known by the nickname “Kafemlejnek.”

• 4. July 11: Main summer rides on the historic steam train along the Turnov–Rovensko and Turnov–Semily routes.

  13. June 14: Museum Weekend at the Turnov depot, featuring tours of historic railcars.

Kolej-klub and Pojizerský Pacifik Excursion Trains

During the 2026 season, the Kolej-klub Association will operate both regular and special trips with historic railcars on several routes.

Regular summer service (June 27 – August 29, 2026):

• Every Saturday: Tourist trains on the Turnov–Lomnice nad Popelkou route (trains to Mount Tábor).

• Every Saturday: Historic railcars operating on the Královec–Žacléř line.

• Weekends: Motorized handcar rides in Žacléř.

Martinice in the Krkonoše Mountains Railway History Society

The Martinice v Krkonoších station is a national cultural monument and a unique open-air railway museum. It is the best-preserved station with a mechanical signaling system in the Czech Republic, where railway history is presented directly in an authentic operational setting.

• Railway Museum: An exhibition located directly inside the station building, dedicated to the history of the “Pojizerský Pacifik” railway line and the technical development of railway signaling systems.
• Educational Trail: Information panels on the station grounds that explain how mechanical signals and other historical exterior features work.
• Cultural Monument: A tour of the station’s authentic spaces, which have retained their mid-20th-century appearance.

Seasonal Rides and Events: Special nostalgic trains run on Line 042 (Martinice v Krkonoších – Jilemnice – Rokytnice nad Jizerou) during the summer and winter seasons.
