Discover the beauty of Northern Bohemia without worrying about parking or snow chains. The IDOL network of bus routes will take you comfortably from city centers directly to the ski slopes, cross-country ski trails, and the gates of iconic landmarks. Whether you’re planning a day of skiing with friends, a peaceful cross-country ski trip in the Jizera Mountains, or a leisurely winter walk with the kids, leave your car at home and set out on an adventure with us.
Here are some tips on where to go for winter hiking, sports, sightseeing, and beautiful views of the countryside:
Liberec and the Surrounding Area
Ještěd
IDOL Transit: Take tram line 3 (Lidové sady – ZOO – Fügnerova – Horní Hanychov) to Horní Hanychov, from where you can continue on foot or transfer to bus line 270 (Liberec – Osečná – Stráž pod Ralskem – Mimoň (it passes through the “Na Výpřeži” stop).
Sports Destination (Skiing): Take advantage of the modern Ještěd Ski Resort, which offers slopes of varying difficulty as well as night skiing under the illuminated ridges.
Tourist destination (hotel and transmitter): Head straight to the iconic landmark at the summit of Ještěd, which offers unforgettable panoramic views of the entire region even in winter.
Jizera Mountains
Bedřichov and Hrabětice
IDOL Transportation:
Bus line 145 (Liberec – Bedřichov – Janov nad Nisou, Hrabětice) and public transit line 18 (Liberec – Bedřichov ) run to the Jizera Mountains
Current Information:
Starting Friday, January 10, 2026, selected trips on Route 145 will be extended all the way to Hrabětice.
Departure from Liberec Fügnerova, bus stop M, at 8:55 a.m.; arrival at Janov nad Nisou, Hrabětice, chapel at 9:30 a.m.

These routes will take you directly to the cross-country ski trails.
Sports Destinations (Cross-Country and Downhill Skiing): Bedřichov is the main starting point for the Jizerská Magistrála, while the Severák resort in Hrabětice offers gentle slopes even for the youngest skiers.
Tourist destination (lookout tower): From Hrabětice, take a walk to the Slovanka lookout tower, the oldest iron lookout tower in Bohemia, which offers beautiful views of the snow-covered ridges of the Jizera Mountains.
Jablonec Dam (Mšeno)
IDOL Transportation:
Bus line 141 (Liberec–Rýnovice–Mšeno–Jablonec nad Nisou) will take you directly to the reservoir, stopping at several locations just a few steps from the reservoir’s shore.
Sports Destination (Ice Skating): During severe frosts, the reservoir’s surface transforms into a popular natural ice rink right in the city, where you can enjoy ice skating with views of the surrounding mountains.
Hiking destination (walk): Even when it’s freezing, you can take an easy walk along the well-maintained paths around the dam’s three reservoirs, which is considered one of the most beautiful urban reservoirs in Central Europe.
Nová Ves nad Nisou (Černá Studnice)
IDOL Transportation: Bus lines will take you to the area
741 Jablonec nad Nisou–Lučany nad Nisou–Smržovka–Tanvald–Desná–Harrachov
742 Jablonec nad Nisou–Nová Ves nad Nisou–Smržovka–Tanvald–Desná–Harrachov
743 Jablonec nad Nisou–Nová Ves nad Nisou–Tanvald–Desná–Harrachov–Rokytnice nad Jizero. For the closest access to the summit, use the Nová Ves nad Nisou, Horní Ves stop.
Sports destination (sledding): Try the legendary natural sledding run from the summit of Černá Studnice down toward Smržovka to the Filip ski lift. The run is nearly 4 km long and offers an adrenaline-pumping experience on the snow.
Hiking destination (lookout tower): Visit the stone Černá Studnice lookout tower, which is open in winter and offers one of the most beautiful views of the Jizera Mountains and the Krkonoše Mountains.
Smědava
IDOL Transportation:
Bus line 650 (Frýdlant–Raspenava–Hejnice–Bílý Potok–Smědava) will take you deep into the mountains.
How to get to bus line 650: Bus line 650 departs from Frýdlant. From Liberec, you can reach the boarding points (Frýdlant, Raspenava, or Hejnice) via train lines L6, L61, and L62. From there, transfer to bus 650.
Sports destination (cross-country skiing): Smědava is a strategic gateway to the Jizera Trail. Perfectly groomed cross-country trails branch out from the mountain lodge toward Jizerka or Knajpa.
Hiking destination (winter scenery): Enjoy the atmosphere of the Smědava mountain lodge and set out on a winter walk to the Jizera peat bogs or to the lookout point at Černý potok.
Dalešice and the surrounding area (Maršovice, Pěnčín, Skuhrov, Dolní Černá Studnice)
IDOL bus service:
341 Jablonec nad Nisou–Frýdštejn–Turnov
342 Turnov–Malá Skála, Vranové–Jablonec nad Nisou
Local route 841 Jablonec nad Nisou – Maršovice – Pěnčín – Alšovice – Železný Brod serves Maršovice and Pěnčín. Suitable for longer trips or a visit to the Pěnčín area, and route 842 Jablonec nad Nisou – Krásná – Skuhrov – Huntířov – Železný Brod takes you to the lookout tower. Get off at the Pěnčín or Krásná stop (from there, it’s a 2.5 km walk to the summit).
Line 851: Connects Jablonec nad Nisou–Zásada–Držkov–Jílové u Držkova–Železný Brod
Long-distance Line 960 (Liberec – Jablonec nad Nisou – Železný Brod – Semily – Jilemnice – Vrchlabí ) passes through this area
Sports Destination (Cross-Country Skiing): When snow conditions are good, the area around Dalešice offers excellent terrain for cross-country skiing. Quiet, local trails wind through picturesque countryside with views of Černá Studnice.
Hiking destination (foothills): This area is ideal for winter walks between villages. For example, you can visit Pěnčín with its well-known recreational area and goat farm.
Tanvaldský Špičák and Albrechtice
IDOL Transportation: To reach the area, take the L1 train line from Liberec to Tanvald to Harrachov(the Tanvaldský Špičák stop is located at the cable car boarding area). When traveling on the L12 Smržovka–Josefův Důl line, you can transfer to the L1 line in Smržovka. If you’re heading to Albrechtice, take bus line
744 Tanvald – Desná – Albrechtice v Jiz.h. – Josefův Důl – Dolní Smržovka – Tanvald
Sports destination (skiing): The largest ski resort in the Jizera Mountains offers slopes of all difficulty levels. Špičák, Selský dvůr, Světlý vrch, and Detoa are perfect for families.
Hiking destination (views): Take the four-seat chairlift to the top of the Tanvaldský Špičák observation tower.
Kořenov, Příchovice, and Desná-Souš
IDOL Transportation: Service is provided by lines
743 Jablonec nad Nisou–Nová Ves nad Nisou–Tanvald–Desná–Harrachov–Rokytnice nad Jiz.
747 Tanvald–Desná–Kořenov–Příchovice–Rejdice–Vysoké nad Jizernou

Sports Destinations (Cross-Country and Downhill Skiing): Příchovice offers trails near the Štěpánka observation tower and in the U Čápa area. Horní Polubný is the starting point for the route toward Jizerka.
Tourist destinations (lookout towers and traditions): Visit the Štěpánka or Maják lookout towers and the Jára Cimrman Museum.
The Lusatian Mountains and Mácha’s Region
Jedlová and Nová Huť
IDOL Transportation:
Trains on Line L4 (Mladá Boleslav–Jedlová) and Line R22 stop at the Jedlová forest station. The important Route 400 Cvikov/Rumburk–Varnsdorf–Nový Bor–Česká Lípa–Mělník–Prague serves the Svor, Nová Huť (at the crossroads) stop.
You can take the train to the Jedlová station, walk down Mount Jedlová to Nová Huť, and from there comfortably return by bus 400 (or vice versa).
Sports destination (cross-country skiing): From Nová Huť, head along the groomed main trail toward Stožecké sedlo, which offers an easy route.
Hiking destination (lookout tower): From the Jedlová train station, hike up to the peak of the same name, which features a stone lookout tower.
Krompach, Dolní Světlá, and Polevsko
IDOL Transportation:
The following bus routes will take you to these mountain villages:
441 Nový Bor – Cvikov – Krompach
444 Krompach – Cvikov – Lindava – Sloup v Čechách – Nový Bor – Polevsko
482 Nový Bor – Polevsko – Kytlice
Sports Destination (Cross-Country Skiing): Enjoy cross-country skiing on the ridges around Polevsko or on the groomed trails near Krompach.
Hiking destination (viewpoints): Visit the sandstone formations near Dolní Světlá, complemented by the impressive Krkavčí Rocks with their sweeping views. The area’s dominant feature is Mount Luž, the highest peak in the range, offering a 360-degree panorama stretching from the Krkonoše Mountains all the way to Saxony.
Doksy
IDOL Transportation:
You can reach Doksy by train on lines L4 (Mladá Boleslav–Jedlová) and R22, or by bus on line 250 (Česká Lípa–Doksy–Bezděz–Bělá pod Bezdězem).
From the stops, it’s about a 10–15-minute walk to the lake.
Sports destination (ice skating): When temperatures drop low enough, the surface of Máchovo Lake transforms into the region’s largest natural ice rink.
Hiking destination (walk): Take the lakeside loop trail past the Králův stolec lookout point. According to legend, Charles IV himself watched the creation of Velký rybník (Máchovo Lake) from this spot.
The Krkonoše Mountains and the Podkrkonoší Region
Rokytnice nad Jizerou and Jablonec nad Jizerou
IDOL Transportation:
By train on line L9 from Martinice v Krkonoších to Rokytnice nad Jizerou, or by bus
Route 940: Liberec–Jablonec nad Nisou–Jilemnice–Vrchlabí–Špindlerův Mlýn
Route 941: Rokytnice nad Jizerou–Jablonec nad Jizerou–Jilemnice–Martinice v Krkonoších/Vrchlabí
Lines 951, 952, and 954 also provide regular service connecting the train station in Jablonec nad Jizerou with the center of Rokytnice and Horní Rokytnice.
Route 942 Rokytnice nad Jizerou–Jablonec nad Jizerou–Harrachov continues across the town square to Horní Rokytnice or Paseky nad Jizerou.
Sports destination in Jablonec nad Jizerou: The Kamenec Ski Resort, offering slopes for both beginners and advanced skiers, is accessible on foot directly from the train stop.
Tourist destination in Jablonec nad Jizerou: The Strážník lookout point, offering views of the town and the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains, or a walk through the valley along the Jizera River.
Sports destination in Rokytnice nad Jizerou: The popular Horní Domky ski resort with a lift to Lysá hora and the family-friendly Studenov resort. On the ridges, you’ll find the trailhead for the Krkonoše Main Trail.
Hiking Destination in Rokytnice nad Jizerou: The scenic forest park on Stráž with four unique architectural lookout points (Fox, Bear, Sheep, and Miner), accessible even in winter.
Benecko
IDOL Transportation:
The village is located off the main routes; connections are provided by two direct lines from the foothills:
948 Jilemnice-Hrabačov-Benecko ( direct service from Jilemnice and a transfer hub for other routes)
and 949 Jilemnice–Benecko–Vrchlabí ( convenient access from Vrchlabí, ideal for travelers from Trutnov or Hradec Králové)
Sports destination: The Sunny Terrace of the Krkonoše Mountains, ideal for families and offering a cross-country ski trail connection to Mísečky.
Hiking destination (also accessible in winter): The Žalý stone observation tower with a unique panoramic view.
Horní Mísečky
IDOL Transportation:
Long-distance bus line 730 (Vítkovice, Horní Mísečky–Jilemnice–Semily–Turnov–Prague ) will take you to Horní Mísečky without the need for complicated transfers.
Route 947 Martinice v Krk.–Jilemnice–Hrabačov–Vítkovice–Dol.Mísečky–Horní Mísečky runs at regular intervals from Jilemnice and provides quick transportation for downhill and cross-country skiers from the valley directly to the ski lifts and cross-country trailheads.
Sports Destination (Alpine and Cross-Country Skiing): A mecca for cross-country skiing with race loops of all difficulty levels and an ideal starting point for ridge hikes. Thanks to their gentle slopes and wide open spaces, the slopes at Mísečky are the best place in the Krkonoše Mountains for teaching children and for beginners.
Hiking destination (family-friendly): A winter walk from Horní Mísečky to Labská bouda along the easy Masaryk Road.
Špindlerův Mlýn
IDOL Transportation: You can reach the resort via direct connections or by transferring at the Jilemnice hub.
Direct service on this route is provided by Line 940: Liberec–Jablonec nad Nisou–Jilemnice–Vrchlabí–Špindlerův Mlýn.
Route 405 Špindlerův Mlýn – Vrchlabí – Jilemnice – Jičín - Mladá Boleslav – Prague: In Jilemnice, you can transfer to bus line 960 (coming from Liberec, Jablonec nad Nisou, and Semily) heading toward Špindlerův Mlýn.
Sports destination: The Svatý Petr and Medvědín ski resorts, which offer activities for both advanced skiers and families with children. Groomed cross-country trails are available on the ridges, along with access to the Krkonoše Cross-Country Trail.
Tourist destination: Relaxation at the water park, picturesque ridge hikes to the frozen source of the Elbe River.
Vysoké nad Jizerou
IDOL Transportation:
Long-distance route 720: Rokytnice nad Jizerou–Vysoké nad Jizerou–Semily–Železný Brod–Turnov–Mladá Boleslav–Prague
and Route 747 Tanvald–Desná–Kořenov–Příchovice–Rejdice–Vysoké nad Jizerou (connection to the Jizera Mountains) 951, 952, 954 —these routes serve Semily, Jablonec nad Jizerou, and Rokytnice nad Jizerou—and route 953 to Jilemnice and Tanvald.
Sports destinations: The Šachty and Větrov resorts for families; for cross-country skiers, well-groomed trails with panoramic views.
Tourist destination: The Local History Museum or the lookout point near the Krakonoš Theater, offering panoramic views of the Krkonoše Mountains.
Jestřabí in the Krkonoše Mountains and Křížlice
IDOL Transportation:
Take bus line 946: Jilemnice – Poniklá – Jestřabí v Krk. – Křížlice – Vích.Lhota – Víchová n.Jiz. – Jilemnice with a transfer at the Jestřabí v Krk. stop (intersection), where you’ll transfer to a bus heading for the mountain ridges.
730 Vítkovice, Horní Mísečky–Jilemnice–Semily–Turnov–Prague and 947 Martinice v Krk.–Jilemnice–Hrabačov–Vítkovice–Dolní Mísečky–Horní Mísečky
Ridge-bound routes (730 and 947) run from the valley (from Jilemnice or Prague) and climb through Vítkovice to the terminal station at Horní Mísečky (near the ski lifts and cross-country trails).
Sports destination: Downhill skiing at the Aldrov resort or cross-country trails in the peaceful foothills.
Tourist destination: The unique Evangelical church in Křížlice and well-preserved log-cabin architecture.
Czech-Polish border region
Harrachov and Jakušice (Poland)
IDOL Transportation: The L1 train line is a key connection between the Jizera Mountains and the Krkonoše Mountains; with an IDOL pass, you can travel all the way to Harrachov, and thanks to connecting trains, you can continue directly through the cross-country skiing paradise in Jakušice to Szklarska Poręba in Poland. This unique route eliminates the hassle of finding parking and takes you directly to the access points for the main ski trails on both sides of the border.

Route 943 Harrachov, FIT FUN – Harrachov, Center – Harrachov, Train Station / Kořenov, Train Station. Provides a connection between the train station and the city center.It connects with train arrivals. Route: Harrachov, FIT FUN – Harrachov, City Center – Harrachov, Train Station / Kořenov, Train Station.
Sports Destination (Cross-Country Skiing): Jakušice offers dozens of kilometers of trails near the train stop. Harrachov is the starting point for the Krkonoše Main Trail.
Tourist destinations (nature and ski jumps): The ski jump complex, the glass museum, or a walk to the Mumlava River and the Mumlava Waterfalls.
Świeradów-Zdrój (Poland)
IDOL Transportation: Take bus line 691 from Hrádek nad Nisou to Zittau–Bogatynia–Frýdlant–Świeradów-Zdrój (with a transfer from the train in Raspenava) or the direct weekend bus from Liberec, line 630: Liberec–Frýdlant–Nové Město p.Smrkem–Świeradów-Zdrój. Both routes will take you directly to the lower station of the cable car with the IDOL fare.
Sports destination (downhill and cross-country skiing): A modern gondola lift and a 2.5 km-long downhill run. Cross-country trails toward Chata Górzystów and Jizerka.
Tourist destination (spa and viewpoints): A spa town with a colonnade and the unique “Sky Walk” observation tower.
Fare tip for Poland: For trips to Jakušice or Świeradów-Zdrój, you can use the EURO-NISA-Ticket+ (abbreviated ENT+). The ticket is valid for the entire route, including on Polish trains and buses. It is sold for 1 to 5 people, and up to 3 children (ages 6–14) can travel for free with each ticket (in Poland, a maximum of 2 children). Children under 6 always travel for free.
Bohemian Paradise, Lomnice Region
Lomnice nad Popelkou and Ploužnice
