The region wants to resume train service to Zhořelec, Poland; for now, trains will run at least as far as Zawidów

The Liberec Region is interested in supporting the introduction of a cross-border connection from Liberec to Zhořelec. As a first step, the region has decided to extend selected Liberec–Černousy passenger trains to the first Polish station, Zawidów, at its own expense. In February 2023, it therefore commissioned the extension of these trains from České dráhy, which already provides regular service to the border region. In April 2023, České dráhy submitted an application to the Railway Administration for the allocation of train routes. In May 2023, České dráhy, through a cooperating Polish carrier (Koleje Dolnośląskie, which is owned by the Lower Silesian Voivodeship), submitted a request for route allocations to the Polish railway administrator PKP PLK. Since June 2023, follow-up requests have been made to the Polish infrastructure manager, PKP PLK, to obtain the necessary response. As part of these follow-up efforts, a test run of the first train to Zawidów took place on February 8, 2024, at the initiative of Czech Railways. Relevant Polish representatives were invited to this test run. No technical issues were identified during the run. Efforts to urge PKP PLK to cooperate continue, but the planned launch date of April 2024 may be at risk. If the approval process on the Polish side is not completed within a few weeks, the Liberec Region will have to seek a later date for the start of operations.
