Preparations for Changes to Public Transportation Check-In Procedures in Liberec

The old orange fare collection devices in the public transit vehicles of the Liberec transit authority, which work only with the old red Opuscard, are the last remnant of the old fare collection system in IDOL, which was replaced by the new IDOL+ system at all other transit operators starting in September 2023.

It’s worth noting that on Liberec public transit, the old Opuscard can now only be used to purchase a single-ride ticket loaded onto the card, which allows travel within Liberec or, if applicable, to Jablonec nad Nisou, but without the option to transfer to public transit there. For now, the only full-fledged alternative is the Idolka mobile app.

New cashless green terminals are now beginning to appear on the Liberec public transit company’s vehicles, signaling that the modernization of the ticketing system is nearing completion. There will be slight differences for Liberec public transit due to boarding through all doors and the resulting self-service purchase of individual tickets via cashless payment.

What will the new onboard terminals offer?

• The option to purchase an integrated IDOL paper ticket, which is valid for transfers to other transit operators participating in the IDOL network.
• The option to set the ticket’s validity to the IDOL destination zone, meaning even outside of Liberec.
• Tickets will be available at a discounted price when paid for via cashless payment. Payment can be made using the Opuscard or Opuscard+ e-wallet or a credit/debit card.
• Two terminals will be available in each vehicle (bus, tram).

Valid tickets are checked by inspectors on Liberec public transit vehicles, and this is the only procedure that will remain in place in the future. Unlike other transit operators, on Liberec public transit, you do not need to “tap” your valid ticket or pass when boarding a vehicle.

Until all devices have been installed and tested, they will not be put into full operation. Therefore, you cannot purchase tickets from the new terminals at this time; sales will begin on the date of the announcement, which we will communicate to you in a timely manner together with the operator, DPMLJ.
