Preparing Timetables.

You probably already know that one of KORID LK’s activities is preparing timetables. In this installment of our “series,” we’ll share with you how they’re created.

It’s not that we have nothing better to do than come up with changes that might disrupt people’s lives. Your transportation needs change over time; companies offering job opportunities come and go, and the demand for commuting to schools fluctuates. Some routes carry fewer passengers than in the past, while others carry more. In short, we have to stay on our toes at all times. We’re working to gradually improve connections between the Liberec Region and neighboring regions, including routes to Germany and Poland... . Every year, we address hundreds of suggestions from municipalities, companies, schools, or directly from you—our passengers. We cannot accommodate all of them, at least not immediately. Sometimes, accommodating one passenger would harm another, larger group of passengers, so we cannot implement the suggestion. But we take all of them into account, analyze current transportation demand, and try to predict the impact of changes.

Did you know that:

• The main timetable change takes place in December. However, proposals generally need to be prepared well in advance. Follow our website so you don’t miss any proposals.
• Additional changes take place in June (for both trains and buses) and, for buses, in March and at the start of the new school year in late August and early September.
• In addition to the regular schedule change dates, we must respond to railroad closures and road closures.
• The Liberec Region orders and funds regional transportation (passenger and express trains, commuter buses), but the IDOL system also includes express trains (ordered by the state) and public transit (ordered by municipalities).
