Did you know that the IDOL ticket is valid for both directions?

28. 5. 2026

When traveling by public transportation in the Liberec Region, you don’t automatically have to buy another ticket for the return trip. If your round-trip falls within the time limit of a given ticket, a single ticket is all you need for both directions. The IDOL fare is fully transferable and time-based, which offers passengers significant financial savings.

How does it work in practice?

  • Selecting a route and zones: You purchase a standard ticket for your route between the selected fare zones. The ticket entitles you to travel on all lines and modes of transportation within these zones.

  • Round trip: Once you reach your destination, you can quickly take care of what you need to do (e.g., a quick shopping trip, picking up a package, or visiting an office) and immediately head back.

  • Time Limit as the Main Criterion: The time stamp on the ticket determines its validity. You must complete the entire round trip within this time limit, up until the moment you exit the vehicle. If the time limit expires during the trip, the ticket is no longer valid.

Using the Idolka Mobile App

The mobile app fully supports this way of traveling and makes the entire process much easier for you thanks to its smart features:

  • Real-time validity overview: You can see the remaining time right on your phone’s screen at all times. This way, you can see exactly how many minutes are left until your ticket expires.

  • Direction-independent: In the Idolka app, the direction of the purchased ticket doesn’t matter at all. If you buy multiple tickets in advance (e.g., for the Liberec–Jablonec nad Nisou route), you can activate any of them for either the outbound or return trip. The only requirement is that the fare zones match.

  • Advance Purchase: You can purchase tickets in the app several days in advance. Their validity period does not begin until you activate the ticket yourself before boarding the vehicle.

The IDOL fare (with the exception of single-use paper tickets purchased with cash) is fully transferable and time-based. Within the validity period, you can transfer freely or take the same route back, which saves you money on purchasing another ticket when traveling.

Where can you find this rule in the official documents?

This information is included in the IDOL Fare Schedule (effective January 1, 2026), which you can download for free directly from this website or via thislink

The following chapters of the official Tariff address this issue:

  • Chapter 15, Article 15.8: It explicitly states that the origin and destination zones do not determine the direction of travel and that the ticket is valid in both directions.

  • Chapter 16, Article 16.5: Confirms that single-trip tickets as well as one-day and multi-day passes are valid in both directions, and that the validity of the direction of travel is not checked.
