The town hall building in Rokytnice nad Jizerou is a typical example of the historicist style of the Transalpine Renaissance, while also incorporating elements of the emerging Art Nouveau style, particularly in its interior. The cornerstone of the town hall in Rokytnice nad Jizerou was laid on April 12, 1902. The following year, on September 27, 1903, the town hall was officially opened. Exactly 115 years after the town hall’s grand opening, residents and visitors to Rokytnice nad Jizerou were allowed to enter the town hall’s attic and then climb the 88 steps to the observation balcony of the 37-meter-high town hall tower. The observation balcony offers a beautiful view of the ridges of the Krkonoše Mountains, and both local residents and visitors to the town take full advantage of this view. The tower is open from April through November; it closes for the winter to prevent the wooden staircase from being damaged by road salt. If you haven’t been here yet this year, don’t hesitate—we’d love to see you here! Every year, we update the art exhibition in the attic, which is part of the town hall tower tour.
