Take our bus line 650 and set out on a winter adventure. The bus will take you comfortably all the way to Smědava, which is the ideal starting point for cross-country skiing along the Jizerská magistrála and for winter hiking.
How to Get to the Starting Point
Bus line 650 (Frýdlant – Raspenava – Hejnice – Bílý Potok – Smědava) connects with train service.
From Liberec: Take train lines L6, L61, or L62. They’ll take you to the boarding points in Frýdlant, Raspenava, or Bílý Potok, where you can easily transfer to bus line 650.
Smědava: Crossroads of Snow Trails
Smědava is the strategic hub of the Jizera Arterial Trail. From here, you can follow the white trail in any direction. Where will you go?
- Toward Kořenov (via Jizerka): This popular route leads through the village of Jizerka all the way to Kořenov. You can comfortably return to Liberec on the L1 train line.
- Toward Josefův Důl (around Souš): Head toward the Souš Reservoir. Passing through Mariánskohorské Boudy, you’ll descend to Josefův Důl, where the L12 train line operates.
- Toward Nové Město pod Smrkem: On cross-country skis, you can ski around the Smrk massif all the way to Nové Město.
- Toward Bedřichov: The route goes through Čihadla and Nová Louka. From Bedřichov, you can return by public transit or bus line 145 (Liberec–Bedřichov).

Tip for a day trip: The Desná Dam Breach (Protrženka)
The breached dam on the Bílá Desná River, known as “Protrženka,” is one of the most impressive sites in the Jizera Mountains. This cultural monument commemorates the tragic disaster of 1916 and has a unique atmosphere.
How to get to Protrženka and back:
- There: Take bus line 650 to Smědava (or get off at Bílý Potok and walk uphill).
- Return via Desná: From the dam, you can walk down to Desná. There, take bus line 748 (Tanvald–Desná) or train line L1 (Liberec–Harrachov).
- Back via Josefův Důl: An alternative route from Protrženka leads to Josefův Důl. To return home, take the L12 train from Smržovka to Josefův Důl or bus line 795.
