Liberec City Hall: Viennese Charm at the Foot of Ještěd

The Neo-Renaissance town hall is an unmistakable landmark of Liberec. It was built between 1888 and 1893 according to a design by the Viennese architect Franz Neumann. It is no coincidence, then, that its appearance resembles that of Vienna’s City Hall. Even after more than a century, it remains one of the city’s most precious landmarks.

What will you see on the tour?
- Exterior: Above the massive entrance portal, you’ll notice a stone relief and a balustrade balcony from which many important figures have spoken throughout history.
- Interior: The richly decorated facades, rare stained-glass windows, and, above all, the magnificent ceremonial hall—a showcase of precise craftsmanship—are well worth seeing.
- Tower: The main tower is 61 meters tall, and a statue of a knight stands at its pinnacle.
Tours of the interior take place every hour and are organized by the City Information Center.
Transportation
As the regional capital, Liberec is easily accessible by public transportation.
- ByTrain and Bus: The city is served by a dense network of regional connections as well as long-distance express trains and buses.
- Public Transportation: From the train and bus stations, you can easily reach City Hall (the “Náměstí Dr. E. Beneše” stop) by tram or bus via the Fügnerova terminal. Check the timetables for connections.
