Jablonné v Podještědí: A Historical Gem and the Gateway to the Lusatian Mountains

Discover one of the oldest towns in northern Bohemia

Visit a town whose history, as documented in records, dates back to 1249. Jablonné v Podještědí will charm you with its many historically significant buildings and picturesque log cabins. Thanks to its location, it’s also an ideal starting point for trips to the Lužické Mountains.

What to see in the town and surrounding area?

Minor Basilica of St. Lawrence and St. Zdislava This magnificent basilica, completed and consecrated in 1729, is the town’s most prominent landmark. It is part of a Dominican monastery, whose history, however, dates back nearly 500 years further.

Observation Tower and Former Brewery Take a look at the tower of the former parish church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. The church was later converted into a brewery. Although beer is no longer brewed there today, the building remains an interesting technical monument with a scenic view.

The Pachtů of Rájov Hunting Lodge This cultural monument, owned by the city, comes to life primarily during occasional social events and exhibitions.

Tips for Hiking Trips

• To Lemberk Castle: Set out from Míru Square following the green hiking trail. The route will take you past Markvartický Pond and the Bredov Summer Palace to nearby Lvová and Lemberk Castle.
• Into the Mountains in Search of History: Follow the red trail toward the Lužické Mountains. Along the way, you’ll pass a Ukrainian military cemetery from World War I and a monument dating from 1921.

How to get there with IDOL

Thanks to the integrated public transit system, connections to Jablonné v Podještědí are easy and frequent.

• By train: Take a train on Line 086 Liberec–Děčín (routes L2, R14, L24).
• By bus: For example, line 440 (Liberec–Nový Bor) will take you directly into the city.
