Paper tickets
The traditional way to travel. You can buy them without registering, pay in cash or by card, and transfer between all carriers in the IDOL system within their validity period.
What paper tickets can do
- Purchase without registration—just come and buy
- They allow transfers between buses, trains, and trams
- QR code for validation—scan it at the reader when transferring or during a fare inspection
- The ticket is round-trip—you can travel both ways within the validity period
Where to Buy Paper Tickets
On the bus:
- from the driver when boarding
- at self-service ticket machines (on Liberec public transit vehicles)
On the train:
- from the conductor
- at the station ticket office
- at a ticket machine
At sales locations:
- at IDOL ticket counters
How to pay
- Cash – standard price
- Bycredit card – cheaper than cash
- With an Opuscard / Opuscard+ e-wallet – also cheaper
Cashless payments are cheaper than paying with cash. You can find the exact amounts in the current IDOL fare schedule.
How to use a paper ticket
- Buy a ticket from the driver, at a ticket machine, or at the ticket counter
- You’ll receive a ticket with a QR code
- When transferring, scan the QR code at the reader in the next vehicle
- Show your ticket to the inspector during a ticket check
The ticket is valid for the purchased route (origin–destination) and a specified time period. The validity period depends on the distance. For shorter trips, it’s a matter of tens of minutes; for longer ones, it’s a matter of hours. The exact validity period is always indicated directly on the ticket.
Specifics for Liberec Public Transit
- On Liberec public transit trams, you pay by card at a self-service ticket machine
- The driver does not check tickets
- Tickets are checked only by the ticket inspector
Additional practical information
- You can also use a paper ticket to pay for luggage or a bicycle. You can purchase it the same way you would for a passenger
- Did you accidentally buy a ticket for the wrong route? If you realize this right away, tell the driver or go to the ticket office. If you’re already on the tram, you’ll need to pay the difference for the correct route.
- Do you travel often? For regular trips, it’s worth considering:
- multi-ride passes (weekly, monthly, annual)
- Opuscard+ with an electronic wallet
- the Idolka app—tickets right on your phone
