What's new in the timetable starting in December?

What will this year’s schedule changes mean for passengers in the Liberec Region? This year is unique because the main change is spread out over two dates. In addition to the standard nationwide change date of Sunday, December 15, the schedules for a significant portion of the lines will change as early as December 1, 2024.

“There’s a good reason for having two implementation dates. The goal is to align the schedule with the Central Bohemian Region, where new contracts with bus operators are taking effect,” explains Jan Sviták, Deputy Governor in charge of the Department of Transportation, as he introduces this unusual situation.

The most significant change in rail service is on Line L12 on the Smržovka–Josefův Důl route, where a regular, all-day 60-minute interval will be introduced. During weekday peak hours, two additional train pairs will be added in the morning and one in the afternoon. Minor changes are also taking place on lines L7 and RE2 on the route between Zittau and Liberec. The goal is to stabilize the schedule and increase the capacity of the school train. Major changes are planned for this route starting in December 2025; until then, however, passengers can expect extensive service disruptions due to construction work on this route.

Among the most significant changes in regular service is the increase in service frequency and capacity on Line 400 between Prague, Česká Lípa, and Varnsdorf. In the Česká Lípa region, service will also be increased on Line 410 from Mimoň and Doks to Prague and on Line 427 from Mimoň to Mnichovo Hradiště. These changes will take effect on December 1.

On the opposite side of the region, the “Optimization of the Jilemnice Area” project will be completed as of December 15, improving connections between Rokytnice nad Jizerou, Jilemnice, and Vrchlabí. Connections will also improve between Benecko and Vrchlabí. Many new connections will be provided in Jilemnice and Jablonec nad Jizerou. Service to the Integrated Secondary School in Vysoké nad Jizerou will also be expanded.

Further extensive changes will be implemented between Jablonec nad Nisou and Železný Brod, where routes 841 and 960 will be modified and routes 842 and 843 will be merged. The link between these changes in the Železný Brod area and the optimization of the Jilemnice area is the interregional backbone route 960 from Liberec via Jablonec nad Nisou, Železný Brod, and Semily to Jilemnice, with some services now extending to Vrchlabí. Service on this route will be increased during off-peak hours and especially on weekends.

Similar to route 400, high-capacity 15-meter buses will be deployed to a greater extent on routes to Prague and from the mountainous areas of the Liberec Region; this applies in particular to routes 405, 700, 720, and 900.

“We have carefully prepared all these changes based on previous analyses and in cooperation with local municipalities, and we therefore believe that passengers will soon get used to the changes and appreciate them,” said Otto Pospíšil, managing director of KORID LK, commenting on the updates.

Effective December 1, 2024

• Enhancements to Line 400: new high-capacity 15-meter buses, new service intervals, extended service between Nový Bor and Varnsdorf, and more express services between Česká Lípa and Prague.
• Service enhancements on Line 410 from Mimoň and Doks to Prague.
• Enhanced service from Mimoň and Ralsko to Mnichovo Hradiště on Line 427.
• New weekend morning services from Turnov to Prague and evening return services on Line 720.

Effective December 15, 2024

• Timetable change on Line L12 on the Smržovka–Josefův Důl route (60-minute intervals all day, every day, with two additional train pairs in the morning and one in the afternoon). The Josefův Důl–Tanvald connection has been supplemented during off-peak hours and on weekends with new services on Line 744 (Tanvald–Albrechtice v Jiz.h.–Josefův Důl).
• Completion of the Jilemnice region optimization project
  • train-bus interleaving between Jilemnice and Jablonec nad Jizerou;
  • Strengthening and improving connections between Rokytnice nad Jizerou, Jilemnice, and Vrchlabí;
  • new connections in Jablonec nad Jizerou (all trains connect to/from Rokytnice nad Jizerou; new connections toward Harrachov and Vysoké nad Jizerou at selected times)
  • new connections in Jilemnice (system-wide connections between Liberec and Semily <=> Vrchlabí; Prague and Jičín <=> Jablonec nad Jizerou, Mísečky, etc.)
  • Improved connections between Benecko and Vrchlabí;
  • New weekend connections between Jilemnice and Vrchlabí via Horní Branná and between Jilemnice and Lomnice nad Popelkou (with connections to Jičín).
• Optimization phase for the Železný Brod region
  • Timetable changes on routes 841, 851, and 960, and the merger of routes 842 and 843
• Route and schedule adjustments on Line 900 (Rokytnice nad Jizero – Jablonec nad Nisou – Prague)
  • Unification of routes for services via Lučany nad Nisou and Smržovka;
  • additional services during off-peak hours;
  • Seamless connections to Line 941 at the “Rokytnice n.Jiz., host.” stop in the direction of Jablonec nad Jizerou;
  • Increased use of 15-meter vehicles.
