The bus to Zlaté návrší will run again this year

Representatives of the Liberec Region and the KRNAP Administration have agreed on the terms for operating bus routes to Zlaté návrší. The exemption will be valid for 2025 and 2026. Service will be limited to protect nature in the quiet zone of the Krkonoše National Park, but the outcome is currently an acceptable compromise for both sides.

Operating a bus route to Zlaté návrší is not a given. The KRNAP Administration grants entry permits through an exemption, taking nature conservation into account, and the current exemption, which was valid until April 30, 2025, has now expired. “We have discussed the renewal of the exemption with one another. We wanted to align our interests and find a compromise. While the KRNAP Administration must, of course, take nature conservation into account, the Liberec Region is interested in ensuring adequate and high-quality public transportation services to relieve the overcrowded parking lots in Mísečky,” reveals Jan Sviták, deputy governor in charge of the transportation department. “However, both sides were willing to find a compromise, and I’m glad we succeeded.”

The negotiations focused primarily on the scope of transportation services and how to expand them. During the two-year exemption period, representatives from both sides will return to the negotiating table to seek long-term, sustainable solutions for transportation to Zlaté návrší.

“The bus line’s terminal is located within the KRNAP quiet zone. No other bus line in the Czech Republic runs through such a valuable area. This is another reason why we need to reach an agreement on the operating conditions,” says Robin Böhnisch, director of the KRNAP Administration.

So how will transportation to Zlaté návrší be provided?

Transportation will continue to be provided by Line 991 from Martinice v Krkonoších and Jilemnice, and Line 995 from Harrachov and Rokytnice nad Jizerou. At select times, route 991 will also operate shortened services between Horní Mísečky and Zlaté návrší. However, these shortened services will no longer be supplemented with additional buses. Overall, both routes combined will still provide service to Zlaté návrší and back every 30 minutes between 9:00 a.m. and approximately 5:00 p.m. The last bus from the mountains will depart from Zlaté návrší at 5:45 p.m. (to Martinice).

The routes’ operating season is from mid-June through the end of September. The first buses will depart for the highest-elevation bus stop in the Czech Republic on Saturday, June 14.

“Our priority was to maintain service from the ‘foothills’ and back in a way that makes public transportation attractive and ensures that as few cars as possible come to this area,” says Otto Pospíšil, managing director of KORID LK. Routes 991 and 995 complement each other and also provide regular bus service to the village of Vítkovice.

The fare structure will also change in 2025. Between Horní Mísečky and Zlaté návrší, the base fare under the IDOL fare system will increase to 80 Kč when paying in cash (or 64 Kč when paying by card). A transfer ticket under the IDOL system can be purchased from any zone. From more distant locations, the 24-hour IDOL Network Pass is a better value: 190 Kč for one person (or 150 Kč when paying by card), and 475 Kč for a group of up to 5 people (or 375 Kč when paying by card). Tickets can be purchased in advance, for example, through the Idolka mobile app. “Let’s appreciate this exception and behave considerately and respectfully in nature, and if at all possible, let’s leave our cars at home,” urges Pospíšil.

They have been prepared for the road closure in Vítkovice, which will be in effect for the entire 2025 operating season, during which:

• Line 991 does not serve stops on the section Benecko,Dolní Štěpanice, u mostu – Vítkovice, and škola (it follows a detour route via Křížlice and Roudnice and serves the Vítkovice, kostel stop as usual).
• Line 995 will not serve stops in the section Benecko, Dolní Štěpanice, u mostu – Vítkovice, kostel and will not stop anywhere on the detour route.
• Special detour services on Line 670947 will continue to serve the stops in the section Benecko, Dolní Štěpanice, u mostu – Vítkovice, škola.
