The last weekend in May marks the start of service for additional tourist routes. Buses and trains for cyclists will also be running throughout the region
Explore both familiar and unfamiliar places in the region in the most comfortable way possible. Once again, after a year, tourist routes are offering this opportunity. Cyclists can also travel throughout the region on special trains and buses designed for them. Service begins on Saturday, May 27.
“We have long supported tourism in the Liberec Region. We launched the first phase of seasonal service back at the end of April. As we previously announced, the second wave of tourist routes begins on the last weekend of May. “I am very pleased that we can once again offer people a relatively wide range of special trains and buses. What’s more, most of them allow for the transport of bicycles,” said Jan Sviták, statutory deputy governor for transportation.
Service will begin with weekend bus route 281 from Česká Lípa via Zahrádky, Holany, and Dřevčice to Dubá, as well as weekend route 469 from Česká Lípa to Jetřichovice via Sloup v Čechách, Nový Bor, Polevsko, Kamenický Šenov, and Česká and Srbská Kamenice.
“There will be three round trips on both routes. They will run on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. At major hubs, they will even connect with Route 400 to and from Prague,” added Sviták. All routes will be served by modern, low-floor, air-conditioned buses capable of carrying up to 6 bicycles.
A new feature on Route 469 is the addition of stops from Nový Bor to Polevsko and the Horní Kamenice stop in Česká Kamenice. The routes connect attractive tourist destinations—from Dubské Švýcarsko, Holanské rybníky, and the Peklo Valley to Česká Lípa—and will also take visitors to Sloup v Čechách, Nový Bor, Polevsko, Prácheň, and via Česká Kamenice all the way to Jetřichovice in Bohemian Switzerland.
On Saturday, May 27, the main CycleBus Line 391 will also begin operating in Bohemian Paradise, connecting Turnov and Jičín via Vyskeř, past Hrubá Skála Castle, through Troskovice, and around the Prachovské Skály. The route will operate every weekend until October 1. During the summer vacation, it will run daily.
From May 27 to October 1, 2023, Route 947 (Martinice v Krkonoších – Jilemnice – Hrabačov – Vítkovice – Dolní Mísečky – Horní Mísečky), which can carry up to 11 bicycles, and Route 949 (Jilemnice–Benecko–Vrchlabí), which can also accommodate 11 bicycles, will also be in operation.
In terms of connectivity within the Krkonoše Mountains, we must also mention the launch of Route 990 (Harrachov – Vrchlabí – Pec pod Sněžkou – Malá Úpa), on which a single bus can carry up to 20 bicycles. “Route 990 is the backbone route connecting the entire mountain range. It is the only bus route that takes passengers from one side of the Krkonoše Mountains to the other. It runs from Harrachov through Rokytnice nad Jizerou, Rezek, Jilemnice, Vrchlabí, Janské Lázně, Svoboda nad Úpou, and Pec pod Sněžkou all the way to Malá Úpa,” explained Otto Pospíšil, managing director of KORID LK.
Starting June 3, bus service will resume to Zlaté návrší—the highest-altitude stop in the Liberec Region—via Route 991 from Martinice v Krkonoších and Jilemnice through Vítkovice and Mísečky, and line 995, which runs to Zlaté návrší from Harrachov via Rokytnice nad Jizerou and Rezek. Lines 991 and 995 are for tourists only, and bicycles cannot be transported on them.
Passengers can also take advantage of a wide range of year-round train and bus connections for their day trips.
Specific schedules can be found at www.iidol.cz in the “Tourism, Summer Season” section. Information on the operation of summer vacation routes will also be added to the website in early July of this year.
