Providing Replacement Bus Service in the Liberec Region
14. 3. 2023
Rail service in the Liberec Region can be disrupted or halted by a number of extraordinary events. Such events include, for example, technical malfunctions, weather conditions, or collisions with obstacles on the tracks.
The transportation coordinator works with carriers to minimize the impact of such incidents on the traveling public. This was also the reason for the meeting between a representative of KORID LK and the carrier ARRIVA vlaky.
“As a carrier, we strive to ensure that the impact of extraordinary events on the traveling public is as minimal as possible. Close cooperation between the client’s dispatch center and the carrier is very important,” said Michal Štěpán, CEO of Arriva vlaky.
At a joint meeting, a process was agreed upon under which dispatchers at the IDOL Central Dispatch Center will assist the rail operator in quickly arranging replacement bus service by making inquiries with contracted carriers in the Liberec Region and subsequently helping to book available buses by establishing direct communication between the relevant carriers.
“Establishing communication between the IDOL Central Dispatch Center and the dispatchers of train operators leads to better passenger information regarding any emergencies. We inform passengers via the Station Information System, through Twitter, or directly over the phone. Last week, a dispatcher at the IDOL Central Dispatch Center helped arrange replacement transportation following an incident in which a train collided with a person,” said Rostislav Mocko, head of the IDOL Central Dispatch Center.
The Liberec Region’s transportation coordinator has established the same procedures with the carriers Die Länderbahn (Trilex) and České dráhy.
