The Bus to Ještěd Will Resume Service on April 5
Starting Saturday, April 5, the bus route to Ještěd will resume service. It will run on weekends and holidays during April and October, and daily from May through the end of September.
Bus service was introduced on a trial basis on June 15, 2024, and remained in operation until the end of October. During this period, bus line 79 transported a total of 15,991 passengers from Horní Hanychov to the Ještědka parking lot and back, with more than two-thirds of those passengers traveling during the summer vacation.
“Last year, we launched a trial bus service to Ještěd to gauge interest in the route. Nearly 16,000 passengers used this mode of transportation in 2024. That’s a good number, which is why we’ve decided to continue the service,” said Jan Sviták, Deputy Governor for Transportation.
In 2025, the route will operate from approximately 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at one-hour intervals; in April and October, it will run on weekends and holidays, and from May through September (or until October 3), it will run daily. Just like last year, it will connect with tram line 3 at the terminal in Horní Hanychov. The line also stops at the parking lots below the lower station of the former cable car and at Výpřež. “We will consider adding extra trips during the summer months; however, in general, it will be possible to increase service on the line on an ad hoc basis in cooperation with the transit operator,” explained Otto Pospíšil, managing director of KORID LK, the company that organizes public transportation in the Liberec Region.
Based on an evaluation of last year, the transit operator will deploy a 10.5-meter bus, which will be wheelchair-accessible (low-entry) for this season.
The fare for a one-way ticket is 80 crowns in cash or 64 crowns when paying by card. Passengers will be able to purchase a ticket via the Idolka mobile app or when boarding public transit in Liberec. The price of the route ticket also includes travel on Liberec public transit. Although the fare for this route is 20 korunas more expensive than last year (or 16 korunas more for cashless payments), the ticket’s validity has been extended by 30 minutes to 3 hours.
“Of course, passengers traveling from Liberec to Výpřež on a day trip can also use this route,” added Pospíšil. The fare from Hanychov to Výpřež is the same as public transit fares within the Liberec zone—in this case, 34 korunas, or 28 korunas for cashless payments.
In cooperation with KORID LK and TMR, a special round-trip ticket offer will also be introduced for the duration of the Skalka cable car’s operation , covering a bus ride to Ještěd and a return trip by cable car to Hanychov. The ticket costs 140 korunas (standard) or 100 korunas (reduced fare for children, students, and people over 65).
