IDOL will expand to the Jičín region starting July 1

Representatives of the Liberec and Hradec Králové regions have agreed to expand their cooperation and deepen the so-called overlaps between their integrated transportation systems. Starting July 1, IDOL tickets will allow travel as far as Jičín, while IREDO tickets will allow travel to Turnov or Semily.

“This change is the result of good cooperation between the two regions, and our residents who commute to the other region for work, school, or even just for a day trip will benefit from it. The transportation departments—and, by extension, the transportation organizers in both regions—have joined forces and proposed deepening their cooperation, which builds on the existing overlaps in the integrated transportation system that have been in place since 2013,” state Regional Governors Martin Půta (Liberec Region) and Martin Červíček (Hradec Králové Region) in a joint statement.

An example of a functional IDS overlap exists between Vrchlabí, Jilemnice, and Horky u Staré Paky. Between Turnov and the Jičín region, the validity of the IDOL was extended to Libuň earlier this year. However, effective July 1, the territorial coverage of the IDOL will be expanded to include Jičín, specifically from the direction of Turnov, Lomnice nad Popelkou, and Jilemnice (via Nová Paka).

“Residents of the Bohemian Paradise region, the Semily, Jilemnice, Jičín, and Vrchlabí regions regularly use inter-regional routes not only for leisure but especially for work or school travel; these routes already blur the boundaries between the two regions thanks to their wide range of connections. By developing fare cooperation, we will bring the benefits of integrated transportation even closer to passengers,” states Jan Sviták, statutory deputy governor of the Liberec Region for transportation. “Passengers can thus use, for example, IDOL or IREDO time-based or network tickets even across regional borders, thereby saving a considerable amount of money on their regular commutes.”

In addition to agreeing on the principles of cooperation, the implementation was preceded by modifications to the ticketing systems. “Of course, the two fare systems have their differences in terms of pricing, but their technical principles carry over to the neighboring region virtually unchanged,” explains Otto Pospíšil, Managing Director of KORID LK. Passengers who are accustomed to using Opuscard+, the Idolka mobile app, or a payment card will thus be able to check in the same way throughout the entire IDOL service area. However, the goal of these overlaps is to enable travel between regions, not to compete with one another; therefore, for example, it will not be possible to purchase an IDOL ticket for a trip within the Hradec Králové Region and vice versa.
